Communication

IMG_7404.jpg

Preferred Communication Channels

The best and quickest way to reach us is via email to dancinaround@gmail.com

There will be 2 (two) parent text platforms this year.  Please do not add your child in these chats, adults only.

  • REMIND APP will be an announcement app with a ONE way communication between you and the Coach.  Depending on which Coach sends out the information.

  • GROUPME will be an OPEN parent group forum for chats

We encourage all parents to communicate through the GroupMe app for any and all communications to make plans and arrangements dealing directly with the dance team needs.  This is to ensure that all parents and Coaches are included in the conversations.  I do not recommend a separate parent group chat outside of GroupMe.  If you have a private question that needs to be answered, use the Remind App, send an email or create a private chat within GroupMe.

It goes without saying that when sending texts (private or general) to anyone (parents and Coaches), please consider the urgency and context and be mindful of each other's availability.

All of our communication channels are as follows:

Studio Communication
All important studio information will be sent via email. Please ensure you are regularly checking your inbox and spam folders to stay updated.

Competitions & REMIND App Use
During competitions, we rely exclusively on our REMIND App for communication; this ensures that all teachers, dancers, and parents are on the same page and can assist each other quickly.

Please Note: At competitions, our teachers are fully focused on supporting our dancers; this includes warming them up, assisting with costume changes, coordinating with competition staff, sending dancers backstage, rehearsing numbers, and much more. Because of this, we ask that all communication during competitions goes through our REMIND or GROUP ME chats.

Mission &

CORE VALUES

IMG_7404.jpg

Purpose and Values of Our Competitive Team: At Dancin' Around Dance Studio, our competition team is a testament to our commitment to excellence in dance and personal growth. We stand for more than just winning trophies; our goal is to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where serious dancers can challenge themselves, refine their skills, and grow as artists and individuals. Our competition is designed to encourage discipline, teamwork, and resilience, ensuring each dancer leaves with not only improved technique but also a sense of community and leadership skills. We believe that every performance is an opportunity to showcase the hard work and passion of our dancers, setting a standard of high-caliber artistry that reflects the future of dance education.

Qualities We Seek in Team Members: We are looking for dedicated dancers aged 5-19 who are eager to be part of our competition team at Dancin' Around Dance Studio. These artists demonstrate a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a passion for dance. We value team-oriented individuals who are motivated by both personal and collective success, and who bring a positive, inclusive attitude to every rehearsal and performance. Our team members are expected to be committed to their dance education and embrace the opportunity to mentor younger dancers, helping to create a nurturing environment that cultivates leadership and artistic growth. If you have a desire to push your limits and thrive in a professional, supportive dance community, we invite you to join us in this exciting journey!

What to Expect: At Dancin' Around Dance Studio we hold ourselves to high standards, and we expect our dancers to rise
to them. When you step into our studio, you’re leaving the outside world at the door. Whatever happened that day, let it go.

You’re here to learn, grow, and immerse yourself in the joy of dance. Our studio is a place for you to pursue your passion with focus, determination, and artistry.

Bring your best energy to every class. This means working hard, being open to corrections, showing up on time, and
coming prepared. We understand that it’s not always easy to stay motivated, but that’s why we’re here—to guide you, push you, and support you through the tough times. Your teachers, your peers, and your parents are all in this together to encourage you every step of the way.

Our team has big goals, and reaching them requires commitment and effort. We don’t settle for half-hearted attempts or giving up when things get tough. We provide you with the tools—both physical and mental—to help you reach your fullest potential. Some days will be hard, exhausting, and you might wonder why you’re pushing yourself so much. But as you start achieving your goals, you’ll see your hard work paying off. What once seemed impossible will become your new strength, and you’ll understand the importance of the process.

We’re a community that thrives on support and teamwork. Here, you’re expected to focus on your own progress while also lifting up your fellow dancers. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed. Bring positivity to the classroom, be the light that lifts everyone up, and watch how the energy around you transforms. With this attitude, you’ll start to love the process. Conditioning will become an exciting tool to strengthen your body and help you achieve your goals. Each class will be a precious opportunity to learn alongside your friends. You’ll value the convention experiences and long competition days, feeling grateful for the chance to compete and improve.

The recognition you receive at conventions and competitions will be a testament to your hard work, but the real reward will be the mental strength and confidence you’ve built along the way. You’ll realize just how strong you are and understand that this mindset can help you achieve whatever goals you have in life. Remember, “it is the things we work hardest for that will reward us the most.”

Come prepared with the proper attire and materials, and be punctual and ready to participate fully. We are a drama-free studio, and we do not tolerate gossip, negativity, or speaking ill of others. Our focus is on building a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and grow as artists.

For Parents: Parents play a crucial role in supporting our dancers and contributing to a positive studio environment. We expect parents to communicate respectfully with faculty and other parents and to address any issues directly and constructively. Your involvement in your dancer's journey is vital, and we ask that you ensure they adhere to the attendance policy and participate fully in team activities. Parents are also expected to model good sportsmanship and a cooperative spirit, supporting all team members and contributing to a drama-free atmosphere. Lift up and support all our artists, teach your child the value of perseverance and work ethic, and encourage a team-oriented mindset.

Our commitment is to the well-being and development of our dancers, and we strive to maintain a focused, drama-free studio environment at all times.

Commitment to Regular Attendance: Regular attendance is essential for the success of our competitive team. Dancers are expected to attend all scheduled classes, rehearsals, and performances. Consistent participation is key to team cohesion and individual progress. While we understand that occasional absences may occur, frequent absences will hinder a dancer’s ability to perform effectively and grow as a dancer, which may impact their eligibility for performances and competitions. We ask that all absences be communicated to the faculty in advance (at least 48 hours) to allow for proper planning and adjustments.

Procedure for Reporting Absences: If a dancer is unable to attend a class or rehearsal, please notify the faculty via email at dancinaround@gmail.com as soon as possible. For planned absences, advance notice is required. In the case of illness or emergencies, please inform us immediately. A doctor’s note may be required for prolonged absences due to illness to ensure that the dancer is safe to return to training. Your dancer plays an integral role in our competitive team, and their attendance effects their entire team.

Missed Rehearsals: To ensure continuity in training, if your dancer misses rehearsal, private lessons are strongly encouraged or may be required depending on how many rehearsals they’ve missed. Your dancer's progress and their impact on the team are our top priorities.

Performance and Competition Attendance: Attendance at all scheduled performances and competitions is mandatory. We rely on every dancer’s participation to represent Dancin' Around Dance Studio with excellence and pride. Moreover, our dancers work incredibly hard to put their best foot forward at performances and competitions, and just one dancer's absence hurts the entire team. Absences from these events will be taken seriously and may result in removal of the dancer’s placement on our competition team.

These events are vital for exposing dancers to diverse techniques, enhancing their versatility, and providing opportunities to learn from industry leaders. Dancers are expected to attend every class with a positive and open-minded attitude, demonstrating commitment and resilience even when faced with unfamiliar styles or physical fatigue. Conventions are also a time for team bonding and mutual support, and we encourage all dancers to uplift and help each other throughout the event. Parents should ensure their dancers are prepared and supported, promoting a healthy balance of nutrition, hydration, and rest before the weekend begins.

Schedule Details &

Requirements

IMG_7404.jpg

Tailored Scheduling: Our class schedule is crafted with each dancer's growth and development in mind. We have made every effort to accommodate various schedules while ensuring efficiency by scheduling each level's classes back-to-back; this eliminates unnecessary breaks, making the most of our dancers' time.

Required Classes: Our class schedule is designed to provide a balanced curriculum that ensures our students receive a comprehensive dance education. Competitive Members are required to be enrolled in 3 recreational classes:  Classical Training (Ballet),  Jazz (Technique, Turns & Leaps), and Electives (Contemporary, Acro, or Hip Hop). This balanced approach ensures that our students develop into well-rounded dancers, equipped with the skills and versatility necessary for success in both competitive and professional dance environments.

Training Focus: Our primary focus is on providing exceptional training for all dancers. We believe that well-trained dancers form the foundation of a successful rehearsal and performance experience. Therefore, our class schedule prioritizes training classes over rehearsal time to ensure that our dancers develop the necessary skills and technique to excel in
their art.

Group Rehearsals: Team members will be learning and rehearsing group choreography during Team Rehearsals.  They will also be working on their technique, calisthenics, building muscle, endurance, team bonding activities and any related dance training.  If time allows, we will rehearse solos, duets and trios choreography.

Solo, Duet, Trio Rehearsals: Solos, duets and trio choreography/rehearsals will have a time slot, scheduled at our private lesson rate. We will coordinate with parents to finalize these slots and cost.

Pricing for one competition choreography starts at $450.

Group choreography and music editing (4 or more dancers) is included in the team fee and will be taught/learned during team practice times. After finishing your Choreography Session, we suggest scheduling additional private lessons with an instructor to refine your routine, enhance your technique, and obtain feedback. Convention

PREPARATION

IMG_7404.jpg

Check-In Process:   The coaches will handle the check-in process for the studio to ensure we do not misplace the team’s wristbands, numbers, or other important items. They will distribute audition numbers and wristbands on Friday or during the welcome and warm-up on Saturday morning. You do not need to check-in your dancer personally.

Exact Weekend Schedule: The workshop and competition schedule becomes available approximately seven days before
each event. Studios receive the schedule simultaneously with parents, so please check the event's website for a ny updates.

Approximate Weekend Schedule:  Some workshop classes begin around 5:30 PM on Friday; these classes are options for dancers who are competing on Friday and need time for hair/makeup, warm-up, competing, and awards.  Saturday's schedule begins with the morning welcome and warm-up around 7:30 AM. The workshop classes run from approximately 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with an approximate 45-minute lunch break. Please note that there are usually no other scheduled breaks. Dancers ages 5-
7 have shorter schedules compared to minis and older; please refer to each event's website for specific scheduling details.
On Sunday, the workshop begins around 8:00 AM and concludes around 3:00 PM. Conventions never have competition on Sunday. The closing show follows classes, during which selected competition pieces and the faculty/national title holders perform. Then, they announce regional winners invited to Nationals, scholarships, and other awards for intensives. While some conventions announce scholarships in class, most announcements occur at the closing show.

Class Participation: Dancers are required to participate in all classes, even dance genres they haven't tried or don't particularly like; this helps them becomes a versatile artist, and they might find a new interest for a particular style!

Convention Attire: When attending conventions, dancers won't have time to change between classes, so dressing in layers
is key. The coaches will give instructions on what to wear.  We generally start with a form-fitting base like a leotard or a dance set (sports bra and briefs or leggings). Add layers for specific classes if desired, such as a ballet skirt for ballet or sweatpants for hip hop. Makeup isn't required for workshop classes, and any hairstyle is fine, though most dancers prefer a polished look like a slicked-back ponytail, a braided ponytail, or a bun. Dancers need to wear their number on their chest during workshops, so bring safety pins or convention magnets. Pack all of your dancer's shoes, even if a specific class isn't on the schedule. If your dancer
doesn't have shoes for a particular genre, there's no need to buy new ones — they can go barefoot or wear jazz shoes
instead.

Lobby Etiquette: Please make sure your dancer avoids running in the hallways or practicing acrobatic tricks. If you need to
warm up or rehearse competition pieces, find a quiet spot and be mindful of your surroundings. Don’t be afraid to compliment someone's costume, congratulate those who just finished competing, and make new friends in the lobby.
Always be kind to other moms, dancers, and studios.

Stage/Ballroom Etiquette: Please apply standard theatre etiquette while watching the competition. Do not enter or exit the
theatre while a dancer is performing; wait for a break between numbers to move in and out. Make sure to turn off phone
notifications or set your phone to silent mode. When watching a performance, do not stand up or move around, especially
in front of cameras or other audience members, as this can obstruct parents’ views and disturb the photos/videos.

Competition

PREPARATION

Hairstyle: Our team’s hairstyle for competitions is a sleek, low braided bun. We require all dancers to adhere strictly to the tutorial, ensuring that there are zero bumps or flyaways; however, you do not need to wrap hair around the elastic. Instead, use a hair tie that matches your dancer's hair color and secure the ponytail. Then, braid the ponytail using a generous amount of gel to smooth down any stray hairs and secure the end of the braid with a clear elastic. Finish with a liberal application of hairspray/gel to keep the hairstyle in place throughout the competition. The hair should not move at all.

Makeup: All company dancers must wear full hair and makeup (including eyelashes) for competitions. This ensures a uniform look that helps our dancers stand out on stage. Parents are responsible for providing their dancers with the necessary hair supplies, makeup, and earrings.

Earrings:  Crystal Performance Earrings are required for all competitions. The specific earrings must be purchased from the the studio or approved by the coaches should it be purchases separately online.

Nail Polish: All nail polish must be removed before a competition. The only acceptable colors are nude or French tips for both fingers and toes.

Permanent Jewelry: Any permanent jewelry must be removed or completely covered with nude body tape. This includes any new piercings that cannot be removed; they must be covered with nude body tape or small band-aid cutouts to ensure they are not visible on stage.

Call Time Requirements: Dancers must arrive at the venue 3 hours before their scheduled performance time. For example, if a performance is at 3:12 PM, the call time is 12:12 PM. At call time, dancers should be inside the venue with hair and makeup done, but they do not need to be in costume yet. Immediately after arrival, dancers will stretch and warm up with the team (30 minutes). Then, we will rehearse our routine (60 minutes). Afterward, dancers will change into costumes and make any necessary hair and makeup touch-ups (15 minutes). Finally, dancers will go backstage 3-4 numbers before they go on. It’s important to note that competitions often run ahead of schedule, and dancers may have quick changes, meaning they rarely have 2 hours between each routine. Therefore, the 3-hour call time is the absolute latest to arrive and ensures dancers feel prepared for the stage!

Competition Conduct: Parents' role at competitions is to provide encouragement from the audience, supporting their dancer and the entire team! Your positive energy helps create a constructive and uplifting environment. Dancers' role is to demonstrate professionalism, respect their parents, teammates, and teachers, and bring a goal-oriented mindset to the space. They should approach each competition with dedication and positivity, focusing on personal growth and the collective success of the team! Coaches' role is to guide and prepare dancers with a focus on both technical excellence and mental readiness, ensuring they feel confident and capable on stage! We provide structured training, detailed feedback, and encourage open dialogue to address any of the dancers' challenges or concerns. It is important that everyone respects these roles to ensure clear, effective support for our dancers and a successful competition experience for the entire team.

ETIQUETTE

During the competition months, it is important to review and adhere to the following Competition Etiquette. This is especially crucial for new members and those who are competing for the first time. Please take the time to discuss these rules with your children as well.

1. No videotaping or flash photography is permitted. Violating this rule can result in disqualification.

2.  Dressing Room:  The dressing rooms are exclusively designated for dancers participating in the competition. It is understood that these rooms are intended for complete undressing and changing into costumes. We kindly request that you refrain from inviting family members or friends into the dressing room. It is important to respect the privacy of our dancers and dancers from other studios. The dressing room should solely be used for changing purposes, and congregating or setting up meals in the area is discouraged. We kindly ask for your understanding if we request you, your family, or friends to leave the area. Please understand that we are simply enforcing the policy and not trying to portray ourselves as the "bad guys." If you need to change your children, we kindly request that you do so quickly and promptly exit the area. Additionally, we would like to remind everyone that the dressing room is also a quiet area for dancers to rehearse or rest before their next routine.

3. Display proper behavior:

   a. Avoid running around and behaving in a disruptive manner. Mind your manners.

   b. Be kind to your dance team and other teams. Avoid negative comments about anyone, including your teammates, teachers, and others you encounter at the event.

  c.  Your child needs to be under adult supervision at all times if they are not with a teacher!  Please do not allow your child to roam around by themselves.

4. Refrain from getting up or sitting down in the middle of a routine while in the audience.

5. Maintain a positive and stress-free mindset.

6. Be well-prepared!!!!

  - Arrive on time and ensure you have all the necessary items for your performance. Do not forget items at home! You will not be allowed on stage if anything is missing.

  - Don’t come with the wrong hair/makeup because you will have to re-do it accordingly.

7. Expect LONG days and nights! Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about this. We are not running the show nor are we in charge of the event. Remember, your teachers have to be there ALL weekend long with little to no breaks, so we understand the pain!

8. Support Our Team: If you are at the competition during ANY of our studio performances we expect you to be in the audience cheering us on! They worked hard for this, showing them the support they deserve!  Sometimes, the teacher may be working with a group of dancers or individual students, which means they cannot be present in the audience to watch.  We kindly request that you refrain from forcing your children to go watch without the permission of that teacher.

9. Respect venue rules:

   - Follow any restrictions on food, drinks, or glitter in the theater as indicated by signage.

10. It is necessary to arrive 3 hours before your performance time. Occasionally, events may start earlier than scheduled, so it is crucial for you to be there in advance. This allows us to warm up and practice before going on stage.

11. Please assist with props when requested.

12. Awards: We kindly request that our dancers always attend their awards ceremony. They have put in a lot of hard work and deserve to be up there to receive their awards. Please ensure that they wear their studio attire and sit together as a group, behaving appropriately.

13. Costumes: Once your child is finished wearing their costume, including any jewelry and hairpieces, on stage, we ask that they immediately remove everything and put on their studio clothing. Please take good care of the costumes and accessories, as we do not have extras.

14. Bringing your extra items: We ask that you please bring all your extra items with you to the competition. This includes jazz shoes, jewelry, makeup, tights, booty shorts, safety pins, bobby pins, etc. It can be frustrating when a team member forgets something at home, and it becomes even more challenging when we have limited time to rearrange a routine. If you bring your extra items for us to borrow in case of a crisis, it will help us avoid unnecessary stress.

15. You may want to bring extra money: Most competitions have shops where you can purchase competition shirts, dancewear, extra trophies, etc. They also provide options to buy videos and photos.

16. Bring snacks, water, and a jacket: Competition days can be long, and it may be difficult to leave for lunch or dinner. Please pack snacks and water for both your dancer and yourself. Also, remember to bring a jacket as auditoriums are often cold. If you have other children attending the event with you, please bring items to keep them entertained throughout the day. Don't forget your phone charger!

17. To ensure your child's participation, it is essential to pay your current studio balance. We cannot make exceptions in this matter. If your child's account is not paid in full, they will be unable to dance. We sincerely hope to avoid disappointing not only a specific child but the entire team, as pulling out a child affects everyone involved.

18.  Please make sure to check the GroupMe or Remind App regularly during the competition days. This will help you stay updated on any important announcements or when we need your child to check in with us.  It will also be a useful communication channel in case of any emergencies.

19. Enjoy Yourself! You have invested a significant amount of money and time to participate in these events. Leave your stress at home and simply enjoy yourself!

Once again, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here to assist you.
